TikTok Shop Creator Brief Template (Copy and Paste)

By the Creator2Commerce team · Published · Updated · 7 min read

Short answer

A TikTok Shop creator brief tells a creator what to sell and what to avoid, in one page. Include the product and its link, two or three key selling points, the hook or angle, must-show moments, claims that are not allowed, the posting deadline and the deal. Keep it short for nano creators and lighter on direction for big creators.

Key takeaways

  • One page: product, selling points, angle, must-shows, do-not-says, deadline, deal.
  • Match how much you direct to the creator's tier, as TikTok recommends.
  • Every claim in the video must match your product detail page and packaging.

This guide is for brands sending products to TikTok Shop creators. It gives you a brief template you can copy, explains what each section is for and shows how to adjust it for different creators. Rules on claims come from TikTok Shop's misleading content guidance. We do not promise that a brief makes a video sell; it makes a good video more likely and a policy problem less likely.

Why the brief matters on TikTok Shop

TikTok's own matchmaking guide recommends tailoring the content brief by creator tier and guiding creators on producing quality videos. A brief also protects you. TikTok says content must give the same information as the product detail page, and violations can lead to content removal or account suspension. A creator cannot follow rules they were never told.

Tailor the brief by creator tier

Creator tierWhat TikTok recommendsWhat that means in your brief
Mega/macroFocus on necessities, such as key selling points, and let creators handle the restSelling points and do-not-says only; no script
Mid-tier/microA content framework with key product messages, with room for creativityHook ideas, a suggested structure, must-shows
NanoSomething simple and clear so they can go straight to creatingShort, step-by-step, one clear angle, an example video

The template

Copy this into a doc or your IM message and fill in each line.

  1. Brand and product: product name, variant, TikTok Shop product link.
  2. Who it is for: one sentence on the buyer and their problem.
  3. Key selling points (2 to 3): written exactly as they appear on your product detail page or packaging.
  4. Angle or hook ideas: two or three openers to try, such as a problem, a demo or an unboxing. Optional for big creators.
  5. Must-show moments: the product in use, the result as it really looks, the product link pinned.
  6. Do not say or show: see the compliance checklist below.
  7. Price and offer: the current price and any promotion, with its conditions.
  8. Format: short video or LIVE, rough length, any example videos you like.
  9. Deadline: post within 14 days of delivery (TikTok's rule for free samples), or the date agreed in your Target Collaboration.
  10. The deal: commission rate, any flat fee, and whether you want permission to run the video as an ad.
  11. Contact: who to message in TikTok IM with questions.

Compliance checklist for the brief

These points come from TikTok Shop's "How to Avoid Misleading Content" guide. Paste the ones that apply to your product into the "Do not say or show" section.

  • Claims, features, ingredients, sizes and prices must match the product detail page and packaging.
  • No exaggerated or absolute claims such as "100% effective", "guaranteed results", "works for everyone" or "instant results".
  • No wellness claims that the product prevents or cures conditions, and no weight or medical claims. TikTok says a disclaimer does not make these acceptable.
  • Before-and-after or time-based results need a disclaimer that results may vary. TikTok says disclaimers are only for those two cases.
  • No filters, edits or AI effects that make results look better than they are.
  • No negative comparisons that criticize another brand.
  • State the conditions of any promotion. Prices can be rounded up, never down.
  • Disclose AI-generated content clearly.

Make the brief easy to follow

  • Keep it to one page. Put the deadline and do-not-says where they cannot be missed.
  • Link one or two example videos that you like, and say what you like about them.
  • Send the brief with the invitation, then again when the sample ships.
  • Tell creators how to accept the invite and request samples; TikTok has official creator guides you can link.
  • Ask the creator to share a draft or the posted link so you can check claims quickly.

When to update your brief

Review posted videos every week or two. When a hook or demo drives orders, add it to the angle section. When a claim causes a problem, add it to the do-not-says. The brief should get sharper over time, not longer.

Frequently asked questions

What goes in a TikTok Shop creator brief?

The product and link, two or three selling points, hook ideas, must-show moments, claims to avoid, the price and offer, format, deadline and the deal.

How long should a creator brief be?

About one page. TikTok recommends simple, clear briefs for nano creators and only the essentials for large creators.

Can creators make health or before-and-after claims?

Before-and-after and time-based results need a "results may vary" disclaimer. TikTok does not allow cure or prevention wellness claims or weight and medical claims, even with a disclaimer.

Should I script the video for the creator?

Usually not. TikTok suggests key messages and a framework for mid-tier creators and only the necessities for large ones, leaving room for their style.

What deadline should the brief give?

For free samples, TikTok requires a post within 14 days of delivery. For Target Collaboration deals, use the date you agreed.
