How to Measure TikTok Shop Creator ROI (Beyond Views)

By the Creator2Commerce team · Published · Updated · 7 min read

Short answer

Measure TikTok Shop creator ROI by comparing what a creator generated in orders and GMV, net of refunds, with everything they cost you: samples, shipping, commission, any flat fee and ad spend on their videos. Pull orders and commission from Affiliate Center and ad results from Ads Manager, then score each creator monthly.

Key takeaways

  • Views do not pay the bills; orders and GMV after refunds do.
  • Count every cost: samples, shipping, commission, flat fees and ads on creator videos.
  • Use Affiliate Center for organic and commission data, Ads Manager for ad results.

This guide is for DTC brands paying creators on TikTok Shop and wondering what they are getting back. It sets out what to count, where TikTok shows each number and how to turn it into a simple scorecard. We do not give "good" ROI benchmarks, because TikTok does not publish them and they depend on your margins.

Why views are not ROI

A video can get lots of views and no orders. TikTok's matchmaking guide tells sellers to track creator performance and remove creators who under-perform or fail to deliver. That means measuring orders and money, not reach. Views are useful as an early signal, but they are not the result.

The formula

Creator ROI = (GMV from the creator, net of refunds and cancellations - total creator cost) ÷ total creator cost

You can also look at the contribution margin from those orders instead of GMV, which is better if your margins vary a lot by product.

What goes into total creator cost

What goes into creator revenue

  • Organic orders and GMV from the creator's videos and LIVEs. TikTok's samples guide says sellers can see views, likes, comments and orders generated from content delivered for samples.
  • Ad-driven GMV from their videos used in GMV Max. TikTok's ACA guide says Ads Manager shows ROI, gross revenue, purchases, clicks and cost.
  • Refunds and cancellations. TikTok notes reported ads GMV still includes cancelled orders, so net these out yourself.

Use the Export Orders option in Affiliate Center to download standard and Shop Ads commission payments, then join it with your Ads Manager data in a spreadsheet.

Step by step: build a monthly creator scorecard

  1. Export affiliate orders for the month from Affiliate Center.
  2. Export ad results for campaigns using affiliate post videos from Ads Manager.
  3. Add your sample costs and any flat fees for each creator.
  4. For each creator, calculate: samples sent, videos posted, post rate, orders, GMV net of refunds, total cost and ROI.
  5. Sort by ROI and by orders. Look at both; a creator with few orders but low cost can still be worth keeping.
  6. Decide for each creator: keep, renegotiate, move to Target Collaboration with a better offer, or stop seeding.

Organic vs ad-driven: read them separately

When you run a creator's video in GMV Max, the same video can drive both organic and ad orders. TikTok's ACA guide shows that a Shop Ads commission applies only to buyers who come from the ad; buyers from the creator's organic post or profile still trigger the standard rate. Keep two columns in your scorecard, organic and ad-driven, so you can see whether a creator's content sells on its own or only when you pay to push it. A creator whose videos sell organically is usually the stronger long-term partner, and their videos are good candidates to scale with ads.

Common measurement mistakes

  • Counting only commission and forgetting sample and shipping costs.
  • Using ads GMV that still includes cancelled orders.
  • Judging creators on one video. Look at a month or a campaign.
  • Mixing organic and ad results so you cannot tell what drove the orders.
  • Cutting a creator before their 14-day posting window for a sample has passed.

Frequently asked questions

How do brands measure ROI from TikTok Shop creators?

Compare net GMV from a creator's content with their total cost: samples, shipping, commission, flat fees and ad spend on their videos. Track it per creator each month.

Where can I see orders from a creator's videos?

In Affiliate Center. TikTok says sellers can view content performance, including orders generated, for sample content, and see commission metrics under Affiliate Orders.

Does ads GMV include cancelled orders?

Yes. TikTok's ACA guide says reported ads GMV continues to include cancelled orders, so subtract them yourself.

Should I count views in ROI?

Not as revenue. Views are an early signal; ROI should be based on orders and GMV after refunds.

What is a good TikTok Shop creator ROI?

TikTok does not publish a benchmark. Set your own target from your margins, and compare creators against each other over the same period.
